CC-BY-Manson?

There are a lot of things I associate with Creative Commons. Lawrence Lessig. Free Culture. Making the world a better place. Don’t forget to send that donation you pledged.

One thing I don’t associate with the Commons, however, is Charles Manson. To be honest, I don’t really do a lot of thinking about Charles Manson, so it’s not surprising that I don’t associate him with much of anything.

However, while perusing Wired.com over the weekend, I learned that Mr. Manson is now a murderer-cum-musician, and that his new album One Mind has been released under the CC-BY-NC-SA 2.0 license. What a wonderful triumph for free culture, that the psychotic mass-murderer has permissive licensing available to spread his melodious musings to the widest possible audience.

Something tells me this isn’t what Larry Lessig had in mind.
